5 cool things, Wednesday, 31 August 2016

Here’s a new little blog series I’m trialling.

My love for pop culture gutter trash knows no bounds and I stumble across some amazing stuff on the interwebs, so I thought I’d share my 5 favourites each day so you can reap the benefits of my sad little hobby. I’m not going to talk about Fleabag or Stranger Things, you already know those are awesome. Here are some little gems you may have missed:

1. Rob Zombie’s 31

Screened at Sundance 2016 to mixed reviews but don’t let that be the element that puts you off. From the visionary mind of man who brought us House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and Halloween comes the horrific story of five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a large compound. At the mercy of their captors, they are forced to play a twisted game or life or death called 31. For the next 12 hours they must fight for their lives against an endless parade of homicidal maniacs.

I’m so in love with Rob Zombie. House of 1000 Corpses is one of the films that got me into film making and film loving. I know, a contentious opinion but also I don’t give a fuck about your opinion, so there you go.

2. How to talk to a woman wearing headphones… don’t.

A website called The Modern Man has riled up the Internet over the past few days, after Dan Bacon (the mastermind behind such amazing pieces as,“How to Make Women Change Their Mind About Breaking Up” and “How to Get My Ex to Talk to Me Rather Than Being Stubborn.” Kind of a one trick pony…) wrote an article entitled, “How to Talk to a Woman Wearing Headphones”. I’m not going to link it here because I don’t think it deserves it. What I will tell link you to is this. Once again twitter reactions have restored my faith in humanity.

3.Camille Rowe’s Personal Wellness Journey  | What on Earth is Wellness? | British Vogue

I am in LOVE with Vogue on YouTube. They are one of, if not THE best transition from print mag to video – which we all know is the most valuable currency of the interwebs.

I’m currently obsessed with the mini series Camille Rowe’s Wellness Journey (and separately, Camille Rowe… But that’s another story for another day).

These days we can’t move for avocado Instagrams and #eatcleantraindirty, but in a sea of often conflicting information, does anyone really know what’s good for us anymore? Cryogenics, vitamin injections, supplements, crystal baths, organic food – what really works? Join Camille Rowe as she explores the modern craze for ‘wellness’, finding out how to genuinely improve your health and happiness – by learning about what is actually helpful.

Director: Posy Dixon for Luca

5. Watch: Spike Jonze’s Magical short film for Kenzo

The Her director teams up with the choreographer who worked on Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ on an explosive short film starring actor Margaret Qualley.
