Blow Up – Film Fashion Friday

I’ve decided to make each Friday a special film fashion event, where I pick each of my favourite movies and help you guys find the perfect outfits to mimic the amazing looks.

Today’s movie is the 1966 classic Blow Up. If you haven’t seen it, I can not recommend it highly enough! It’s about a photographer, played by David Hemmings, who believes he may have witnessed a murder and unwittingly taken photographs of the killing.

Because it is a movie about a fashion photographer, there are a number of absolutely stunning outfits. It is absolutely killer just trying to pick one or two.

Because I love making things difficult for myself, the two outfits I chose were super hard to find a film still of – though I do think this one manages to show the amazing dresses (and gorgeous women) in all of their glory. These women are simply known as ‘The Brunette’ and ‘The Blonde’, but you may recognize The Brunette as Jane Birkin, 60’s icon and the The Blonde as Gillian Hills.

Excuse the dodgy quality of the above photo, but it was the only one I could get to show off the ladies amazing coloured stockings and shoes!

Are you sold on the outfits and ready to buy? Etsy is your place to go again! Just click the photos below to be taken straight to the items.

But don’t forget what is probably most important of all,  lots of hair back combing and eye liner!!

If you want to do your own Etsy search for Blow Up-esque outfits, try my favourite key search term ‘Geometric shift dress’.

Don’t forget to follow my blog and leave a comment on the blog post below to be in the running to win two gorgeous colour stay lipsticks from Revlon valued at over $50! Competition closes this Sunday, March 24th and the winner announced that night.

Happy Friday friends!

  1. lovely outfits! I haven’t seen this film yet, but it’s on my list (unfortunantly the list is headed ‘movies to watch when I’ve finished uni’ and that keeps getting pushed back haha)

Coloured stockings are my favourite favourite winter piece of clothing. I used to always get them from David Jones, but unfortunantly they haven’t had them for a few years. And DJs was the only place that had the nice solid opaque ones I loved – I had all the colours. There’s a lot of wear and tear, especially around the feet. I have not been able to find ANY online that fit me, I get the biggest avaliable, and the crotch is still only coming up to my thighs. I really don’t get it. I’m neither tall nor huge – in fact, I’m pretty average. So I don’t know how tall people can find stockings to fit them at all! haha forgot what a sore subject this is for me

I just watched ‘The Artist’ which was fantastic for a person whose favourite film has been ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ since they were 5 (aka me). They had wonderful clothes in that flm too, but it’s a few decades earlier than your preffered style 🙂 still, dresses huh!

Tell me what you think?
