About Anti

Do you ever have that feeling that you just have so, so much to do… that if you think about it too much it will make you physically ill… but instead of doing it you stop everything and blog about Rhianna? Yeah me too.

I can’t stop listening to Anti – and while some people are calling this Rhianna’s magnum opus, I strongly disagree.

Yeah, yeah, it’s different than what she’s done before. I honestly don’t think Rhi Rhi is an album artist. I think this is a big part of why I can’t listen to the whole album in tandem.

There are 3 songs that stand out to me.

1. James Joint “I’d rather be smoking weed…”

At 1:12 it’s the shortest song on the album, but catchy as fuck. How can something so jarringly catchy also manage to be so intrinsically sexy? Only Rhianna, bitches. The vintage atmosphere will engulf you and make you wish it was longer than just a fleeting interlude.

2. Desperado “Dear desperado, I don’t want to be alone…”

Ditto as above, but more off-kilter than any other song on the album. You’re lying if this song doesn’t make you think of your own desperado (mmm’ Clint Eastwood).

3. Higher “This whiskey got me feeling pretty…”

Put that on a mug, tattoo it on my forehead and engrave it on my tombstone.

This song reminds you of Rhi’s raw talents as a vocalist, invoking feels of something classic, something of Etta James. When she rasps out, “I’m sorry ’bout the other night,” my stomach drops to the ground.

Anti is available on Spotify and Apple music, take a listen.

Don’t do what I did and get a membership with TIDAL – I really need to cancel that (is what I’ll be saying for the next 3 months).
